Launch
Archive CD Books Ireland Ltd. was officially launched by Professor John Hegarty, Provost Trinity College Dublin, on 23rd March 2005 in the Old Library Trinity College Dublin. Speaking at the launch Professor Hegarty said
When campus companies [like Eneclann] are formed, we always tell them that the TCD badge will help them create a profile in the market place. With successes like Eneclann, the inverse is the case: TCD’s name is promoted by the Eneclann badge and by the badge of this new venture in the wider community of scholars, historians, students, and bibliophiles. It is a statement of the value to society of all disciplines and especially the link between the humanities and the economic development of the country.

Also speaking about the project Robin Adams, Librarian of Trinity College Dublin, said

We are excited by this project, as it will improve access to our unique collection of historic books for researchers not only in Ireland but also throughout the world. It also has major significance for the preservation of the collection, as the College receives copies of all the digitised versions, meaning our readers have less reason to use the originals. The process being used also causes no damage to the original books.  By making the books searchable it will greatly enhance the type of research possible on this material and we expect it will be a welcome resource for the scholarly community.
