A totally superb account of this battalion's exploits during the Anglo-Boer War with literally hundreds of photographs.
A real bonus is the index of ALL men serving in B, C, D, E, F, G, Right Flank and Left Flank Companies of the 1st Battalion. This includes ALL ranks, the date of each individual soldier's arrival in South Africa, their employment in service, details of their injuries (or worse), the date of their final departure and any medals and awards made.
A truly outstanding book for military and family historians alike.
A terrific book for anyone wanting to get the flavour and background of the Boer war without having to read through a more conventional "history." This book is more like a Tabloid account of the war, relying as much on captioned pictures as it does on the written story. While reporting the war from beginning to end this book pays particular attention to the contribution made by the Canadian forces.
A real must for those with ancestors who fought in the Boer War or for those interested in it's history. An exceptionally well-illustrated set of books containing beautiful illustrations, photos and a hand tinted map of South Africa. It has a chapter for every advance and battle. Amongst it's 700 pages it has a roll of honour and lists battalions involved in the war including those from colonial countries and volunteers. The history is very readable and detailed, it even tells you about the type of rations the army and natives ate, the type of weapons they used and so on. The effect the war had on the natives as well as the army is all included in this fabulous set of books.
The illustrations contained in the books are mainly taken from photographs taken during the war. A really fantastic book in that it is detailed, well illustrated and a fascinating read. This book covers all the battles and struggles of people involved in the Guerrilla War, the politics, fighting and feelings of the time.
