Pugh's Alamanac and Directory of Queensland 1895 - T. Pugh Pugh's Alamanac and Directory of Queensland 1895 - T. Pugh

Ref: AU4001

A very rare publication that really is fascinating. For anyone with connections to Queensland this is the CD for you. This Pugh's Almanac and Queensland Directory for 1895 has nearly 1000 pages divided into three sections. Part 1 consists of advertisements, an index to ports and harbours, an index to postal and other routes and the almanac and directory. The almanac lists each day of the year with an event that happened on that day in the past (eg. 9 Jan Pugh's office destroyed by fire 1889, 30 Jan Charles I beheaded 1649, 11 Feb Melbourne Public Library opened 1856).

Section 2 lists ports and harbours, and the 'men of the time'. This section gives biographies of hundreds of men in Queensland in 1895. Also included in section 2 are imports and exports listings, colonial governments and then the indexes relating to part 3 'Queensland Directory for 1895'.

The directory part of the publication is in part 3 which consists of the City of Brisbane Directory, Trades and Professions (listed alphabetically by occupation), the Directory of Country Towns (listed alphabetically by town or suburb), and the Alphabetical Trades and Professional Directory of Queensland (listed alphabetically by name), and more advertisements.

High quality scanned images of the whole of the original book. Information about the towns and villages within the county. Its inhabitants by name and address, together with their occupations. A wealth of information and a snapshot in time. This CD can be viewed by any computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4 or later recommended). Queensland Post Office and Official Directory 1903 Queensland Post Office and Official Directory 1903

Ref: AU4006

The 1903 edition of Wise's Queensland Post Office Directory is the only complete Directory of the whole State published for this particular year. It is divided into three main sections: Towns, Alphabetical and Trades and Professions. These three classifications enable the enquirer to see at a glance the Householders or Traders in any one Town; the Business and Address of any resident in the State; and the Firms throughout Queensland engaged in any trade or profession.

THE TOWNS SECTION contains complete Street Directories of Brisbane and Suburbs, South Brisbane and Suburbs, Charters Towers, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville, also separate Directories for every other Town, Township and Postal District in Queensland.

THE ALPHABETICAL SECTION contains the Names, Occupations and Postal Addresses for the entire State.

THE TRADES SECTION shows the Business Firms of the State, arranged under their trades or professions.

Special attention is paid to the Wealth Producers of the State, and the Pastoral and Agricultural Directory will be found most complete, while the Stations and Runholders' List alone is a most valuable and reliable one. A full list of Mining Companies is also given in Trades Section.

Separate directories are given in the following areas, making the work comprehensive and complete.

Medical. Ecclesiastical, Legal, Educational, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Pastoral and Agricultural, Census 1901 - summaries and breakdown for each Census district, Local and General Government, Public Companies, Customs.

The directory includes many pages of advertisements - all useful information, often including names of people and places.

The whole 1448 page directory, including most text in the ads, is searchable, useful not only for finding names, but also places, occupations and other information for family and local historians.
